- The Boeing C-17A Globemaster III is one of the world's most capable strategic and tactical military transport aircraft. Developed for the United States Air Force, it combines the ability to carry heavy equipment over long distances with the flexibility to operate from relatively short and austere runways. The aircraft entered USAF service in the 1990s and features a high-mounted wing, four Pratt & Whitney F117 turbofan engines, and a rear cargo ramp that allows vehicles, equipment, and personnel to be loaded and unloaded efficiently. Its thrust-reversing capability also helps the C-17 operate from demanding airfields and perform tactical airlift missions.
